SIPS: Sharing our Industry for Public Service May 2025

May 3, 2025 by April

At the 2025 IIBEC Annual Conference, Raymond Global, Inc. President, Mike Ramos, delivered an engaging and timely presentation aimed at equipping building enclosure professionals—and the broader architecture, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry—with foundational knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and its practical relevance. With a session classified under Enclosure and Roofing (EW, R) and approved for both IIBEC and AIA credits, Ramos broke down the often-hyped topic of AI into clear, actionable insights. He explored the current development landscape, addressed growing concerns around data privacy and regulation, and laid out a framework for how industry professionals can responsibly and effectively incorporate AI into their workflows.

Going beyond the surface-level fascination with tools like ChatGPT, Ramos showcased real-world use cases that demonstrate how AI can be purpose-built or integrated into the building enclosure space. Participants learned how to evaluate AI-generated outputs against the judgment of trained enclosure professionals, and how to thoughtfully plan for the long-term impacts of AI across the full A/E/C spectrum. His session underscored a key message: AI should not replace expertise but rather serve as a tool to enhance decision-making, streamline processes, and support better building performance.

If you’re interested in bringing this timely training session to your own team, you can book it by contacting Michael Higgs at michael.higgs@raymond.global.

Introducing the Virginia Chapter of IIBEC

October 3, 2019 by iibec

On behalf of the current board of directors, we would like to introduce you to the newly-formed Virginia Chapter of the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC). We welcome and encourage you to participate and contribute to your new chapter!

The Virginia Chapter of IIBEC is an industry-wide association that includes consultants, contractors and manufacturer members who specialize in the design, investigation, repair and management of roofing, exterior wall and waterproofing systems.

Purpose
The purpose of the Chapter is to provide a medium at the local level for advancement of the objectives of IIBEC, to promote closer relations and cooperation among the professions, contractors, manufacturers, trade associations and societies which are engaged in, or directly connected with, the building construction industry. We also intend to reach out to emerging professionals at the schools and universities in our area to education them about IIBEC and careers in the building enclosure fields.

Geographic Reach
All IIBEC members are welcome to join any and all local chapters. Our primary audience are those members that reside and operate businesses in Virginia outside of the Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. regions.

Advocacy
One of IIBEC’s primary advocacy efforts is to promote ethical (fair and impartial) procurement of consultant services, materials, and contractor awards in the public sector. Please contact one of the members of the Advocacy Committee (Derek Cundiff, Austin Eells, April McKelvey, or Scott Shufflebarger) to find out how to get involved.
